Chapter 7 ending
Mr. Kapadia's hands begin to shiver, and he dropped the heavy set of
books on the floor. Thud! Sanju-kaka on hearing the sound came running to the
study.
"Bade-saheb are you alright? Let me pick the books for you."
As Sanju-kaka stepped ahead to pick up the books, Mr. Kapadia is startled
with Sathya's voice from behind him.
"Sanju-kaka, its fine I will manage this. You complete your task in
paying monthly salary to the maids and the cook of the house. And please close
the study door behind you." Says Sathya.
Chapter 8
The Conclusion
Mr. Kapadia is frozen in shock. After Sanju-kaka left the study, Sathya
picks the books and places them back on the shelf.
Mr Kapadia's legs start to tremble. Sathya tries giving him a helping
hand to make him sit on the nearby couch. But Mr. Kapadia shoves him away in
anger and manages by himself.
Sathya replies in a calm tone,
"Be my guest sir. Please call the cops. But before that, let me
give you one more piece of advice. If you speak anything on this to the cops,
it would be you who will be cornered and not me. As in no time it would be
proven that it was you who gathered all the false evidence against your son's
murder and trapped your own nephew who is not even guilty of the crime.
Sathya takes a seat close to Kapadia and continues,
" I had no strong evidence to prove in the court of law to punish
the cold-blooded murderers of my sister. You cannot deny the fact that if at
that time, had I come to you begging for justice, you would have refrained from
believing in me in the first place and would have got the sky down to prove
your only son's innocence. How could I just leave both of them to live their
life peacefully? I have no regrets whatsoever on what I have done. Infact, it
was very less compared to the agonizing death my Savitridi had. Your son
cheated her and got her, and their unborn child brutally murdered. Two innocent
lives were killed so easily without a second thought. Your own grandchild
sir! Would have been a teenager now, had he or she been alive today."
Mr. Kapadia recollected how in the past, multiple times he had found Rishi
going on a wrong track due to his bad character. He had tried a lot to explain
to him, but it was all in vain. Rishi's behavior towards his father too was
always rude and insensitive. When Rishi requested Mr. Kapadia to become foster
father of Sathya and had also started getting actively involved in the Ashram’s
activities, Mr. Kapadia was contented that his son was slowly yet steadily
changing to be a good man. Now in Sathya's study Mr. Kapadia got to thinking of
himself as to how naive he was then, far away from reality.
Mr. Kapadia and Sathya sit in pin drop silence in their own thoughts of
past memories.
After some time, Mr. Kapadia gets up to leave and Sathya reaches him to
the door silently.
Sathya notices that Mr. Kapadia has left the documents he was carrying
on the table. As he picks them up, he understands what they are all about.
With the documents in his hand Sathya rushes out to Mr. Kapadia.,
"Sir your documents. You've forgotten to take them."
Mr Kapadia with tears filled eyes looks at Sathya for a moment and
replies,
"I haven't forgotten anything. They are yours" wiping off his
tears he leaves
Sathya too has tears in his eyes now. Staring at the papers, he wonders as to
why even after being victorious he is feeling the pain of loss...
The End
I have to start by thanking my dearest sister, Susan David for
patiently reading my early drafts on 'malice aforethought' and helping me turn
it into a neat story.
My awesome friends, Harshwardhan
Agarwal, Ryan Furtado, Niloofer Bohra and 'Advocate Vandana Bhartia'. Thanks for all your help. Love you loads.
And a big thank you to you all, my readers, for your unending support.
Loved your messages, feedbacks, guesses on the storyline, etc. This was a
learning experience for me. Got to understand post uploading my first chapter,
that the character names were very similar to one another, which caused
confusion and required focus while reading. My apologies for the same. Yet you all read it with interest and enthusiasm, especially when most of
you are working people and can read my blogs only in the night before crashing
to bed,. I extend my gratitude to all of you.
Hoping to see you all soon, in yet another interesting, rollercoaster
journey. Till then, stay blessed and continue dreaming :)'
